Thanks to https://rochellewisofffields.wordpress.com/ for this prompt! I wasn’t sure what to do with it, and still am a little lost. But hey, it’s writing, and I wrote it.

“You’re sure it’s safe out there?” Asked the young man, shouldering his pack full of camping gear. His wife stood next to him just outside the store, grinning.
Milly smiled, conscious of her missing teeth. “Safe as you were in your mammy’s arms, I wager,” she said as she glanced over their shoulders, noting the sinking sun. “Best you be off now afore dark,” she turned to close and lock the doors to her shop.
The happy couple hurried off toward their jeep as Milly stared at the garlic hanging above her door, wreathing her in its presence and protection.
Just like the knowing villagers in a Hammer Horror.
Good piece.

That sorted them out then. Liked the dialogue and Milly’s voice – I could quite visualise her.

Dear Ray,
I”m not sure if I’ve welcomed you to Friday Fictioneers. Life has been crazy on my end so forgive me if I haven’t.
I’m guessing that Milly is a shopkeeper in vampire infested territory? Hence the garlic is keeping her safe. Or I may just be dense. It’s a challenge to write a complete story in a hundred words but the more you do it the easier it is. (At least that’s what I tell myself.)
Shalom,
Rochelle

You’d probably remember if I managed to do these more often–which I should, since I love your prompts!
And you’re right, this one was a little tough for me. I think I ended the story at 200 words, then cut out a hundred, haha. When I wrote it, I thought of it more as like the people in this town sacrificing unsuspecting travelers to appease whatever nocturnal beasts haunt those woods over yonder. =D

Sounds like there are no way they should be out past dark in a place like that..

I do not think I would risk it if there was a chance of being bitten by something…

I’d like to know about each of their stories and how they came to meet each other! But you can only do so much in 100 words, right? Great job!

Thank you! There’s always next time, maybe another picture will crop up with them in mind =D

Oops, there go the tourists. I wonder if these villagers have a deal with the vampires: you don’t eat us, we don’t tell or something. Great story.
